Goodbye, Dublin
My classes ended yesterday, Thursday the 27th. I’m trying to pack all of Ireland in my bags. Who says you can’t take it with you?
I’ll be without airport connection (and therefore unable to post clever quips and pics) until I return to San Francisco on August 9th.
As much as I enjoyed exploring Ireland, I’m looking forward to seeing my family and friends, especially my beau Drew McKinney.
Farewell for now. Here are some of my favorite sites that I’ll most likely revisit once more during my last 24 hours in this great city.
The National Gallery of Art was where I spent the most time:
Merrion Square Park:
The General Post Office, where the Easter Rising of 1916 was staged.
Barry Flanagan’s sculptures of hares are all over O’Connell Street. Behind the hare is The Spike, a silly sculpture people refer to as the “Stiletto in the Ghetto.”
There’s a great exhibit on W.B. Yeats at the National Library. What’s even cooler is the National Museum of Archeology and History next door. Right now they have bog bodies on display. These are very well preserved dead bodies found in Irish bogs that date back to the Iron Age. The interesting thing is how they were killed–they were sacrificed during pagan rituals. I don’t have any pics of them, but here’s the National Library next door:
Finally, I’ll have at least one last Guinness at Doyle’s, a nice little pub on D’Olier Street:

Hi Cassie, Have a safe trip home.
I just got your post card and I love the Yates painting.
