I am thrilled to share the cover for my debut novel, GRIEF CAMP, forthcoming from SFWP on September 14, 2027! Cover design by Gwen Grafft.

About GRIEF CAMP

Julia Harlan, a free spirit with a guilty conscience, inherits a desolate piece of the California desert from her former employer, an eccentric movie star. She turns the estate, equipped with 11 casitas in various states of disrepair, into a funky refuge for people seeking solitude to mourn, which, in jest, she calls, “Grief Camp.” Guests experience home-cooked meals, sunset meditation, and weekly visits from a self-proclaimed “consciousness doula” practiced in the art of tarot card readings and microdosing. But right before an unexpectedly intense monsoon washes out the road, a detective arrives investigating the meaning of inheritance.

Told from multiple perspectives of misfits hiding out in an offbeat desert paradise, Grief Camp is a darkly comic, propulsive exploration of celebrity worship and complicity.

Preorder!

While you're waiting for the book to arrive, why not check out the soundtrack? My brother, Gabriel Lewis, who is a talented filmmaker and writer based in Los Angeles, generously curated the official soundtrack for GRIEF CAMP! It is now available on Spotify and Apple Music.

Early Praise for GRIEF CAMP

"Funny and tender, rollicking and wise, Cassandra Lewis creates a world you’ll want to run away and live in forever."
- Domenica Ruta, New York Times bestselling author of All the Mothers

Past Praise for my Nonfiction Writing

“Cassandra Lewis is a gifted writer who seamlessly marries vulnerable personal accounts with sharp and compassionate political commentary.”
— Jenny Bartoy: Editor of No Contact: Writers on Estrangement

“Cassandra writes with a rare combination of unflinching honesty and unfaltering empathy. She has the courage to go straight at what hurts, and the skill to render it with nuance and care. Her sentences are razor-sharp and assured, but her work refuses the false comfort of neat conclusions. She can pin a moment to the page with startling clarity and then let it radiate outward into ambiguity, nuance, and possibility.”
— Charley Burlock, Books Editor, Oprah Daily
